I love this music video from Nathaniel Rateliff! The visuals are pretty incredible as well!

Take a bunch of pictures that are framed in a way that there is clear sky above the subject matter:

From here, in photoshop, duplicate the photo and flip it:

3 More Exercises

 1) Exercise 1: Shoot through...

Shooting through translucent glass, water, or even a car window on a rainy day can result in distortions and light diffractions that will create unusual but visually interesting images. Don’t hesitate to experiment with other kinds of things you can shoot through. You can then find out how they can affect your image.

 2) Exercise 2: Movement and motion

Move the camera as you shoot, throw the object, have someone run past...

3) Exercise 3: Less is more

Exercise 2: Ten of One

Take 10 unique or abstract photographs of 1 small subject (pencil, dime, leaf, etc)

Exercise 3: Four Corners

Choose one subject and place it, where it exists, in each corner of the frame for 4 total photographs...

Abstraction Collage and Combination

Collage and Combination

- Hey all! We've taken A LOT of pictures this semester. Here is a chance to create some artwork with a nice finished quality that combines those pictures along with the many editing techniques we have learned.

- Create combinations of multiple layers and rows (2x5 in the above example).

- Consider some color photos, some black and white, and some black and white with high lighted color.

- How do the images "play" off each other? Each image should look good on it's own, but also compliment the images around it.

- Cropping, placement, and editing will be important in being successful!

Use photoshop to create a canvas to copy and paste your images into. When going to File >New, I would pick a strong directional size (wide or tall) to work on:

Then make sure your "Rulers" are turned on:

From here, click and drag from the ruler space to create some "guides". This will help you organize your layout:

Now is the time to copy and paste your photos in! Remember to consider some color photos, some black and white, and some black and white with high lighted color. How do the images "play" off each other? Each image should look good on it's own, but also compliment the images around it. Consider cropping, placement, and editing will be important in being successful!

Abstraction

Lines, Textures, and Patterns - Abstraction

Investigate line, texture, and pattern through photography. Some things to keep in mind:

1) Think close up! Zoomed in - can you lose the identity of the object and make its texture or surface become the focal point? Example: A photo that is so zoomed in on a basketball, the color orange and the tiny bumps of the surface are all you can identify. Make sense?

2) Both man-made and natural. Experiment photographing a combination of things inside verses things outside. Nature gives us some of the coolest patterns and textures out there!

3) Make art! These photographs can easily become a piece of art based on the level of detail you capture, the way they are cropped, and how they are presented

Mirror/Frame Assignment

Optical Illusions

We are going to take some time shooting Optical Illusions. During this hour, you will need to consider the following...

Scale:

Scale and the size of your figures/objects can go a long way in creating an optical illusion. Can you photograph someone picking another person up with just their pointer finger and thumb? What about
make a traditionally small object look huge? Check out these examples...

Orientation:

Consider your physical direction or how you position yourself. Here are some examples...

Nature:

There is a lot of potential when using yourself in a outdoor setting. Using water, trees, and other natural elements can make for some really creative solutions...

Letters + Words

 Class!

Today's assignment will be putting together you words from all the "Letter" pictures we took. Please complete the following:

Name: First or Last
School Theme: Faith Like a Child
Word: A word that means something to you...

Instructions:

Open our "ABC" google doc:

When you have a letter you'd like to use, you can screenshot it to your desktop (shift+command+4):

Start collecting all your letters that you will need in order to spell out your name, the school's theme, and a word that means something to you.

Open them in Photoshop and create a new document:

You will want a document that gives you room to spell out your word (see above and below)

Now you can start to copy and paste your letters on to this document. Remember to select the image with the Rectangular Marquee Tool, edit copy, edit paste on the new document.

Looking forward to seeing these!
